If you have grown bored of your daily routine of pedaling a bike to and fro – and want to do something different to bring back the feel good factor, you’d love to drift on a bicycle. Moreover, if you are a big fan of movies like Tokyo Drift – but don’t have the money to go buy the motor vehicles, there is a great news for you: you could have the same experience on your bike. All you have to do is to get a bike, a helmet, and a better grip on the handlebar.

Here is the step by step guide on how to drift a bicycle …

Step # 1: Tighten your rear brake

Before you start drifting, make sure that the rear brake is in good working condition. Taking no chances, take your bike to the garage and tighten the rear brake. Why? Unless that rear tire doesn’t get jammed, it is impossible for even the veterans of the game to even start a drift – let alone going ahead with it. Thus, unless you want to be left embarrassed in front of your friends, make sure that the rear brake is working at its best.

Step # 2: Increase the speed of your bike

Learning how to drift a bicycle is like learning to through a yo-yo, you would mess up a lot at the start. If your bike is at an optimum speed, it would be much easier for you to drift. However, before you go and start rotating the pedals, remember one thing: the speed shouldn’t be such that it takes the bike out of control. That is to say that the speed should be such that you could control the bike with ease.

Step # 3: Incline your body forward – you should be LITERALLY standing

To make sure that the rear tire is devoid of your weight, make sure that your entire body weight is being held by the pedals and the handlebar. To do this, stand on the paddles before you start drifting.

Step # 4: Turn the front wheel in the direction you want

After you’ve done this, adjust the speed of your bike with the front brake. As you might guess, it is the front wheel which is the most important in the upcoming stages. So make sure that you’ve turned it either way of your choosing.

Step # 5: Jam the rear brake

When you’ve done this, your rear tire will lose its traction with the road. Consequently, it would have no choice but to slide out.

Step # 6: While your rear wheel is sliding, shift your body weight to the inside of the turn

In our bid to make sure that you’ve full control during the entire process, this step is the most important. Otherwise, while you might go on with the drifting, it won’t be safe.

Step # 7: Counter the steering wheel

Another step for your safety, countering the steering wheel would make sure that you don’t get tossed off the bike while drifting.

Step # 8: After completing the turn, point the front wheel in the desired direction, and slowly let go the rear brake

During this step, you have to make sure that your speed remains optimum. Hence, pedal as fast as possible.

Step # 9: Go into a turn

To do this, make sure that your foot is on the concrete. At the same time, hold the back brake. Congrats, you’ve learned how to drift on a bicycle.
